How do I know my property is suitable? Most properties built before 1920s have solid walls. With solid wall properties there is no cavity to fill hence externally insulating is often the most cost effective home efficiency improvement.
How long will it take to install?EWI usually takes an average of 2 - 3 weeks from assembly to dismantle of scaffolding. As with most building works the installation can be weather dependent.
How much disruption should I expect?All work is undertaken outside of your property. Whilst work is ongoing, disruption will be kept to a minimum.
How long does external wall insulation last?EWI has a life expectancy of up to 60 years.
What will I need to do before work commences?
There is no need to vacate your property and your installer will take care of everything, including:
- Any gates will be temporarily dismantled.
- Satellite dish removed and fixed to scaffolding.
- Flues and overflow pipe will be extended to accommodate the installation.
- Down/ soil pipes will be adjusted to suit.
- Any plants will be removed from the wall surface.
My home is damp, does external insulation help with this?The primary cause of damp within any home is condensation.
